Interested in being a student advocate, joining student government or being a leader in a club? LEAD Academy provides experiential learning opportunities to enhance your organizational leadership skills, explore current issues influencing higher education, and learn how to be a more effective student advocate. This unique program is run by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI), Fresno State’s student government and official student voice!

Sacramento Student Advocacy Road Trip

Join us for a day trip to the California State Capitol building! We will tour the Capitol Museum, each lunch and meet representatives. Learn about current issues influencing higher education through this exciting experiential learning opportunity. Exercise your civic-responsibility by preparing to take on leadership roles on campus and in the community. Transportation and lunch provided.

Running Effective Meetings

Avoid wasting time on bad meetings! Learn how you can effectively run and participate in meetings including how to start them with a purpose and end with a plan of action. This training will touch on the basics of parliamentary procedure and each participant will receive a Roberts Rules Of Order In Brief book.

Learn how to better craft and present arguments. Explore the difference between authority and influence and explain how you can use your own relational capital to influence up, across, and down.

Enjoy some pizza and explore the basics of good financial practice for club accounting. Learn the different types of grants available to your club or org and how / when to apply.  We walk you through the different forms needed for transactions. No registration needed.

California Higher Education Student Summit (CHESS)

During a two-day conference held approximate to the state capital, you will participate in various training sessions on student leadership and governance, higher education and public policy, and conducting successful lobby visits in preparation for Advocacy Day at the Capitol. In addition, you will be provided the unique opportunity to collaborate and network with state legislators and student leaders from all of CSU’s 23 campuses. Transportation, lodging and most meals provided. Space is limited and priority registration given to current ASI representatives.
